MEET TRAVIS, CASHIER AT POLARIS GIANT EAGLE
October is National Differently Abled Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) and at Giant Eagle, we are so proud to call our Team Members who are differently abled a part of our family. The primary message of NDEAM is “Inclusion Drives Innovation” and we truly value the perspectives and innovative ideas that this month’s featured Team Members bring to our Company.
This week, we share the story of Giant Eagle Team Member Travis Napper.
Travis Napper truly shines in his role at the Polaris Giant Eagle in Columbus, OH and has enthusiastically taken on more and more responsibility. His positive attitude and work ethic have made him a favorite among his team AND his customers. Melonie Strohm (Front End Team Leader) says, “Travis is a joy to work with. He has a great sense of humor and jokes with fellow Team Members…He has quite a few regular customers that wait just for him to check out.” And that affection is definitely a two-way street, because Travis says the best thing about working at Giant Eagle has been “…the relationships I have gained not only with my co-workers but also the customers that come into the store.”
Coincidentally, Travis’s favorite part of his job is also sometimes his most challenging. He enjoys handling the self-checkouts and being able to move around from lane to lane, helping as many customers as possible, but he says it can be difficult when there are multiple customers calling for assistance – “…since I am low to the ground they don’t know that help is coming!” But Travis takes it all in stride and loves to “…joke around and lower peoples’ guards around me” and says that the support from his fellow Team Members have allowed him to do that easily.
Recently, Travis completed his Front End Coordinator training and is doing that job several times a week. Store Leader Dan Davis admires that even though Travis moved recently and has a different store closer to his home, he chose to stay at the Polaris Giant Eagle because of the relationships he’s built.
In his free time, Travis is a huge Steelers fan (much to his store’s dismay!) and is active in wheelchair basketball and kayaking.
Travis noted that Giant Eagle is one of the more accommodating companies he’s worked for, and we’re thankful to have him on board!
Thank you for your 2.5 years of service and for everything you do, Travis!
