Meet Scott, Recruiter at Giant Eagle and Market District
This September, we are featuring recruiters from different business areas within Giant Eagle who will be providing job seekers with important advice and tips to help them land the job they've been looking for! From filling out an application to participating in an in-person OR virtual interview, we'll be giving the inside scoop of what really matters!
This week's #TeamMemberTuesday is featuring Scott, Recruiter at Giant Eagle and Market District! Scott joined our Talent Acquisition team as a contractor during our holiday hiring season and quickly found a permanent home. His enthusiasm for connecting job seekers with opportunities has helped us continue to build our Giant Eagle family!
How did you come to work for Giant Eagle?
After graduating from Robert Morris University, I worked in retail management for several years. I moved back to Pittsburgh in 2018 and found a contracting opportunity with Giant Eagle. After four months, a position on the Recruiting Team opened, and I was fortunate to join the team.
Why have you chosen to stay with Giant Eagle?
I truly love my role. It is so great to meet new people every single day and make a difference. I am bridging gaps and finding opportunities for those who want to try something new. In turn, those Team Members help the store in supporting our communities.
What was the moment you knew you’d made the right decision to work here?
I’ll say on Day One, but I think it was before that. I worked as a contractor for Giant Eagle during a holiday hiring push in 2018. The team then was supportive and helped me to get me on my feet quickly. When I joined the Company in April of 2019, Giant Eagle gave me the resources and time to learn as much as possible. The feeling of support and encouragement confirmed that I made the right decision.
What is your favorite Giant Eagle memory?
Last December, our Talent Acquisition Teams gathered to celebrate the retirement of one of the recruiters. There were dozens of people there, each telling a different story and their favorite moments with her. The amount of energy, happiness, and love in the room was so inspiring to see. It really makes you feel like a family
What three words would you use to describe Giant Eagle?
Family. Positive. Community.
What work are you most proud of?
During the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, our communities were relying heavily on Giant Eagle for Curbside Express pickup and delivery. Over those 12 weeks, we hired more than 3,000 Team Members across the Retail platform. It was great to help support people in our communities by recruiting these new Team Members.

What advice would you give to a job seeker who is filling out an application for a position with our supermarket team?
Be honest – Don’t try to make up any information to “impress” anyone. Also, a resume is helpful! It is an easy way to help tell your story.
What advice would you give to a job seeker who is preparing for a phone interview for a position with our supermarket team?
Smile, on video and even on the phone; it helps.
Be personal. We enjoy getting to know YOU, not the questions, and have one or two questions to ask us; we like to engage and see what you are interested in.
What advice would you give to a job seeker who is preparing for an in person or virtual Hiring Manager interview?
Have a copy of your resume on hand! You can highlight what you want to discuss, and be able to provide examples of past experiences and what you learned from them.
What advice would you give to a current Team Member who aspires to get promoted?
Keep an eye out and take on any opportunity. This is how you gain experience, knowledge, and meet new people.
Ask questions. It helps positively challenge the order and promotes opportunities to learn something new.
