Meet Bethany, Pharmacy Intern at our Westerville Giant Eagle
This week's #TeamMemberTuesday is featuring Bethany, Pharmacy Intern at our Westerville Giant Eagle. Bethany joined the Giant Eagle Pharmacy Team over 3 years ago as a Pharmacy Technician. She has since been promoted to Pharmacy Intern as she pursues her Pharmacy degree. Bethany has a passion for patient care and treats everyone with respect and understanding, which will undoubtedly serve her well in her future endeavor of becoming a Pharmacist.
What is your job title? What do you love most about your job?
I am a Pharmacy Intern at Giant Eagle. I originally started my career with Giant Eagle as a Pharmacy Technician and have since advanced to a Pharmacy Intern. I have worked in the pharmacy for 3 years now and what I love most about the job is being able to care for patients. Every individual that comes to the pharmacy has unique needs and being able to help them and make sure they leave with all their questions answered is really important to me.
What made you think of Giant Eagle as a possible place of employment?
I originally began looking for a new place of employment during my sophomore year of undergraduate school and wanted to place myself in a healthcare setting. I began looking at local retail pharmacies near my home and saw that Giant Eagle was hiring. My brother had worked at Giant Eagle for many years in the past and loved the company, so I thought that it would likely be a good fit for me, as well.
What is your favorite Giant Eagle memory?
Although this past year has been extremely stressful with the global pandemic, Giant Eagle has been able to foster a safe work environment while caring for its Team Members and community. As a part of the Pharmacy team, I would say my favorite memory has been working to vaccinate the community. We started vaccinating the most vulnerable in our community in late January, and to date, our store has helped our county in Ohio have the highest percentage of vaccinated persons in the state. I know I will always be able to reflect upon the pandemic and recognize the part that we played to keep the community safe and healthy.
Have you had anyone you consider to be a mentor play a role in your career? How have they influenced you?
The Pharmacists I work with at my store are all mentors to me. They, along with my dad who is also a Pharmacist, pushed me to pursue a career in pharmacy. I received my undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering and because of the people I work with and the work environment they’ve fostered, I am now pursuing my PharmD at Ohio State University.
What are some interesting hobbies or talents that most people may not know about you?
Something that I like to do when I get down time is play the piano and sing. I also really like to stay active by going on hikes with friends.
