This week's #TeamMemberTuesday is featuring Amanda, Recruiter for Giant Eagle's Pharmacy team! Amanda joined the Giant Eagle family shortly after graduating from high school and has since worked in several departments in our supermarkets before moving into human resources. She takes great pride in her work as a Recruiter and is passionate about making a difference in the lives of our Team Members.
How did you come to work for Giant Eagle?
I was referred to Giant Eagle by a neighborhood family friend whose husband worked for Giant Eagle. I was just graduating from High School and preparing to start college. The Company was flexible to work around class schedules while also giving me great hands-on experience in the workforce. I love working with people, so work really did not feel much like work. I was grateful to gain knowledge in Prepared Foods, Health/Beauty/Wellness, Grocery, Liquor, Payroll, HR, Learning & Development and now Recruiting.
What do you love most about being a Recruiter at Giant Eagle?
My work has meaning. I can be a part of changing and influencing people’s lives for the better. It may help someone financially or give them a new opportunity to learn and grow or give them better life-work balance. As a Company, we pride ourselves in guest service and I can help select the best Team Members for our roles and to help them be set up for success.
Was there a moment you knew you’d made the right decision to work here?
My eyes really opened that this would be a great career for me when someone reached out and asked what I wanted to do, how I wanted to grow, and then shared a new opportunity with me inside the Company. This mentor recognized my hard work and showed respect for that work by investing in my learning and allowing me a new challenge. This started my true career with Giant Eagle.
What work are you most proud of?
I am most proud of our recent efforts. During this unprecedented and trying time for all, we have worked through obstacles in hiring with technology, processes and sensitivity of the unknown, with our current Team Members and those we are hiring. This is the first time we have had this type of environment, and we have excelled with staffing and making sure Team Members are still being hired to support our guests’ needs.

What advice would you give to a job seeker who is filling out an application for a position with our pharmacy team?
Take the time to complete the application. Share with the recruiter information about yourself and include a resume. Also, be sure to update your resume to reflect the position you want. Do not use one resume for all, especially when your resume mentions a specific position that you would like to have.
What advice would you give to a job seeker who is preparing for a phone interview for a position with our pharmacy team?
Be yourself and do your research. Read the job description. Know why you want the position you are interviewing for and why you believe you will be successful at it.
What advice would you give to a job seeker who is preparing for an in person or virtual Hiring Manager interview?
Practice with technology ahead of time for a virtual interview. Know how to use your tools. Make sure sound is right. Have proper lighting and view for your camera.
What advice would you give to a current Team Member who aspires to get promoted?
Build relationships. Work is not just a job. It is a way to meet new people and deepen relationships. Talk to current Team Members in the role you want to be in and define a career path that will get you there. Use the resources that the Company offers and find someone to support your goals to help you get there.
