2021 "Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality"
We are thrilled to share that Giant Eagle has earned the designation of being a “Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality” in the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index (CEI) for 2021. As one of only 75 businesses in our operating areas to earn this distinction (33 businesses in Pennsylvania, 22 in Ohio, 5 in Indiana, 12 in Maryland and 3 in West Virginia), it is an affirmation of the concrete steps we have taken to ensure greater equality for LGBTQ workers and their families in the form of comprehensive policies, benefits, and practices.

2021 "Power of Work Award (Hire Category)" from Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania
We are exited to announce Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania chose Giant Eagle as a "2021 Power of Work Award" winner in the Hire Category, which honors businesses that are opening their doors and improving the lives of people with disabilities and/or other challenges by offering them work or work-related experiences.
In the past year, we've hired nine Goodwill candidates from six Goodwill programs. One of the hires was a participant in Goodwill’s UPMC Project SEARCH program who was hired into a position in the floral department. As she learned the position it became evident that some of the tasks were more than she could handle physically due to her height, and that continuing in the position might put her safety at risk. To accommodate her, we identified other tasks for her to do that are very suited to her friendly and outgoing personality, while allowing her to continue doing some of the original tasks that she enjoyed and that she could do safely. With these adjustments, she has been very successful in her new position!
Giant Eagle Receives #1 ranking on Greenpeace’s Supermarket Plastics Scorecard for 2020
Moving up from #16 last year, our #1 ranking is best-in-class above other supermarket chains around the country. Our top ranking is attributed to the combination of three factors.
Our publicly stated goal to be free of single-use plastics in our operations by 2025 – a goal we are passionately committed to.
The standout initiatives underway across the Company ranging from sourcing environmentally sustainable packaging to establishing transparency standards for our partners. I am very proud of the progress we are making with all these initiatives.

Greenpeace, as the second largest environmental non-governmental organization (NGO) in the world, considers plastic elimination a key area of focus and a critical component to a green and healthy future. Annually, Greenpeace surveys the top 20 supermarket chains and ranks them on their efforts to reduce their reliance on plastics and solutions to tackle the pollution crisis.
