Celebrating Pride Month: Meet Cathy, Retail Resets Project Leader at GetGo
Each year the month of June commemorates Pride Month, which is an opportunity to celebrate and honor the people and events that have contributed to progress for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ+) community. At Giant Eagle, we’ve made great strides in our support of the LGBTQ+ Community. We are honored this year to be recognized by the Human Rights Campaign as a “Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality.” Click HERE to learn more.
In honor of Pride Month, our GE Proud Business Resource Group (BRG) is excited to highlight several of our Team Members all month long. This week, we're thrilled to introduce Cathy, Retail Resets Project Leader at GetGo!
What is your job title? And what do you love most about your job?
I'm a Retail Resets Project Leader for GetGo in our Cleveland division.
I love going into the different stores and getting to meet all our Team Members.
What is your proudest accomplishment?
I’m most proud of my relationships with my family and friends and maintaining the integrity of who I am personally and professionally.
What does Pride Month mean to you? How do you celebrate Pride Month?
For me, Pride Month is not just a month, I show my PRIDE all year long. Pride is about being part of a great community and for everyone to be free to love who they want. It is also about being your authentic self, learning how to show the world your true colors, and speaking up for people who can’t find their voice. Pride Month is about teaching tolerance, education in Pride history, and continuing to move forward in equality. It’s all about being PROUD of who YOU are no matter who you love!
I celebrate with my friends and family. I walk in the PRIDE march thru Cleveland with Giant Eagle. We get together to celebrate our PRIDE and share our love for everyone. I hope the parade and celebration will return this year.
Name a role model, historical figure, or key figure in the LGBTQ+ community that has been meaningful to you. And why?
My role models are all the LGBTQ+ people that have came before me that fought for our rights and that weren’t afraid to come out and let people know that we are just like everyone else. Billie Jean King, RuPaul, Ellen, Harvey Milk, Rachel Maddow, Anderson Cooper, and Michael Sam, who gave up his NFL career to come out to be his true self.
How did you feel/react when you learned Giant Eagle was named a “Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality” in the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index (CEI) for 2021?
I felt proud to work for Giant Eagle. It wasn’t a shock for me that we were on that list. We are a very diverse Company that accepts all forms of people.
