Fighting Hunger with Full Plates, Zero Waste

At Giant Eagle, we continually strive to utilize our nearly 100 years of food expertise to find solutions to help feed all our neighbors, including those who are facing hunger. In 2021, we made a goal to donate 80 million meals to those in need across our communities by 2025. As of June 2023, we have donated 60 million meals. With the support of our Guests and Team Members, 25 million of those meals were donated in the last year!
This includes converting product donations into meals for those in need through programs in our stores, local food banks and food rescue organizations. We also partner with our Guests and Team Members to raise critical funds through seasonal register donation campaigns that generate millions of meals.

Full Plates, Zero Waste
We created Full Plates, Zero Waste so we can help ensure our neighbors have access to fresh, healthy meals and to take steps to reduce food waste by connecting neighbors in need with nutritious food before it's no longer edible. One in seven people across our communities is food insecure, while nearly 40% of food produced in the US goes to waste. In total, we aim to donate 80 million meals between 2021 and 2025, with a major part of this goal driven by partnerships with organizations that can get food to people who need it and keep it out of the landfill.
