A Strong Commitment to Team Members Who Are Differently Abled
For the past 40 years, Giant Eagle has been committed to—and is incredibly proud of—hiring, training and supporting Team Members who are differently abled.
Building Our Network
Our promise to provide meaningful roles has led us to build a network of support. Today, we have four community professionals working with us to help hire and assist a growing number of Team members who are differently abled.
Some of our principal partners include:
Blind and Vision Rehabilitation Services, Pittsburgh
ACHIEVA, Pittsburgh
New Avenues to Independence, Cleveland
Goodwill, Columbus
Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities
Advocating for Advancement
Giant Eagle continually advocates for the advancement of our Team Members who are differently abled. Our Abilities Business Resource Group (ABRG), which is open to all Giant Eagle and GetGo Team Members, aims to support and empower people who are differently abled by creating a barrier-free environment.
We are working to achieve our goals by:
Continuing our partnership with Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD).
Educating Team Members by developing sensitivity training for our recruiters, Human Resources and all new hires.
Learning about the intersectionality of disabilities and race.
Celebrating Team Members who are differently abled as part of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (October).
Developing ways to support Team Member mental health.
Developing a program to identify Team Members who speak ASP so Guests can identify them and know when they are working.
Partnering with ACHIEVA to utilize our new Inclusion Liaison for hiring Team Members who are differently abled.
Giant Eagle is grateful for our Team Members who are differently abled and the many positive contributions they bring to our company and our business every day. We look forward to continuing these integral relationships.
Awards and Honors
For over 40 years, Giant Eagle has focused on being a company where people who are differently abled can thrive in the workplace. We know that everyone has talent; it’s just a matter of matching those talents with the right roles. We know that people who are differently abled make great Team Members, and our Guests appreciate the role we play in supporting the differently abled community. Below are just a few of the awards and recognitions that we have received while working toward our inclusion goals.
2023 Employer of the Year
Every year, United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Cleveland (UCP) honors an employer who shows commitment to hiring and supporting individuals who are differently abled. We are thrilled to share that Giant Eagle won the UCP Employer of the Year Award for 2023. This award reflects our dedication to our partnership with UCP and commitment to bettering the lives of people who are differently abled.
2022 Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion
Giant Eagle earned the designation of “Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion” by the Disability Equality Index for 2022, receiving a score of 100%. Some of the categories on the survey that we excelled in are benefits and community engagement. We also did well in culture and recruitment.

These recognitions affirm our commitment to building an inclusive, equitable and diverse culture, but our work is never done. Completing the index helped us find areas we can improve. Everyone must be involved to create an inclusive workplace for those individuals who are differently abled: Team Leaders, HR, Team Members, parents and guardians (when applicable) and community support teams. We must work toward the same goal of helping people who are differently abled achieve success. Giant Eagle is deeply dedicated to helping every Team Member feel that they belong in our community and can thrive here.
