IT'S #TECHTHURSDAY! MEET RACHEL, SR. QUALITY ASSURANCE ANALYST ON OUR ECOMMERCE TEAM!
This week's #TechThursday is featuring Rachel, Sr. Quality Assurance Analyst on Giant Eagle's eCommerce team! Rachel joined the team a little over a year ago and has played an integral role since day one. She enjoys the variety of projects and was part of the team that recently rolled out the brand new Giant Eagle grocery app!
What has been your career path within Giant Eagle?
My career path within Giant Eagle started in eCommerce within the Quality Assurance (QA) department for web and mobile. I’d like to continue that path and continuously improve our eCommerce department itself and overall digital experiences for our users. So that could lead several different ways!
Can you describe some current (or recent) projects you’ve worked on?
One of the fun projects I’ve gotten the chance to work on recently was working with our mobile team to support the roll out of our new Giant Eagle grocery app and shopping website. This has also included several new store releases on both web and mobile, as well as, new grocery shopping enhancements for pickup and delivery services.
It’s been exciting because this is a completely new shopping application that I’ve gotten to watch go from brainstorming designs to an actual, released product used by millions of people for shopping. The project has been a large effort for our users on mobile to make it easier for them to shop, which we were able to do in a matter of months!
What led you to an IT career?
My career in IT started out doing quality assurance for games; web, mobile, AR/VR, you name it. My interests transitioned away from QA and moved toward hardware-centric projects to more digital and web projects, which led me to Giant Eagle.
What is your favorite thing about working for Giant Eagle? Why?
I really enjoy the community of support and the sense of bigger responsibility when working at Giant Eagle and in Pittsburgh. Especially now with current events around COVID-19, it feels like Giant Eagle has really stepped up to make real efforts to support our communities and our Team Members. I’m pleased to be a part of that; a great place that can help and does.
What is your favorite thing about working in IT/eCommerce? Why?
My favorite thing is that we get to see such a wide variety of projects and different efforts between different departments come through eCommerce and become full-fledged products. For example, one week we might get to have a hand in the next big marketing or email campaign and support its release, and then the next week might be something entirely different. I get to work with a lot of different department and talented people in eCommerce.
A few “Fun Facts” about Rachel:
I play and love a wide variety of video games and tabletop games. I’m also a big fan of getting outside to rock climb, hike, and camp. I’ve been skydiving and have probably played that board game you’re thinking of right now.
