It's #TechThursday! Meet Brandon, Solution Architect with our Supermarket Technology team
This week's #TechThursday is featuring Brandon, Solution Architect with our Supermarket Technology team! Brandon's been a Giant Eagle Team Member for over 18 years and has held various roles in our supermarkets, GetGo, and now our corporate IT teams.
What led you to a career in IT?
I have always been fascinated with technology and gadgets. Getting to work with things that interest you is the difference between a job and a vocation.
Can you describe some current (or recent) projects you’ve worked on?
Back in March 2020, I created a solution using Microsoft’s Power Platform that allowed hundreds of displaced sports venue workers to sign up as Sanitation Partners in over 100 of our supermarket locations. They signed up for shifts and tracked their time using my solution.
I am currently on the team that is working on Teams for Retail Team Members. We setup the Shifts module to connect to Giant Eagle’s Time & Attendance software so Team Members can see their schedule and request time off through the app. We also incorporated the Team Member Community Portal in the News App of Teams so that every Team Member at Giant Eagle can stay connected with everything the company is doing.
What has been your career path within Giant Eagle & GetGo?
I grew up at Giant Eagle. My journey started when I was 16 years old at an independent store. I moved to my first corporate store in 2002 and worked in Produce and Dairy departments for several years. After that, I progressed from a Fuel Clerk to GetGo Store Leader.
I made the move to the corporate office in 2009 when I became the Admin for the GetGo Operations Department. In 2011, I became the Manager of Retail Communication Support, leading the business communication strategy for the Company. In 2017, I made the jump to IT and became Manager of Retail Technology & Operations, serving as the liaison between retail and IT. Most recently, I became a Solution Architect and I am currently focused on creating technical solutions for business problems.
What is your favorite thing about working in IT?
I enjoy seeing how applying the right technology in the right way helps make Team Members’ lives better by simplifying or automating work processes.
Have you won any recent awards?
I received the Pennsylvania LGBT Leadership Award from the National Diversity Council in September of 2019. The National Diversity Council recognizes Leaders in corporate America and within the community who exemplify recognizable LGBTA advocacy efforts. These individuals serve as role models within the LGBTA community and strive to promote inclusiveness within the workplace.
A "fun fact" about Brandon:
I enjoy working with laser cutters at a local makerspace. I make a little bit of everything, from board games to light fixtures.
