A Month to Celebrate the Vital Role of Women in History with Our Giant Eagle Family

Women's History Month is our time to commemorate and acknowledge the vital role of women in history. As Serena Williams, a woman who has revolutionized her sport and used her voice as an activist for equality has said, “The success of every woman should be the inspiration to another.”

Throughout March, the WBRG featured some of the amazing, diverse women within our Giant Eagle and GetGo family and celebrate many outside the Company. Team Member profiles were shared across our social media platforms and on the internal Team Member Community Portal. All Team Members were also invited to participate in activities such as book and movie club discussions, a women-owned business vendor Q&A session, and a virtual wine tasting event benefitting Light of Life Rescue Mission.

The women of Giant Eagle came together to inspire one another with the Women’s BRG, which served as our founding Business Resource Group. Together, they offered us a platform to honor the many talented women who make our Company great and inspired us to continue down the path of inclusion and equity through all our BRGs.

Our Women's BRG's mission is to advocate for the success of women at Giant Eagle providing support and opportunities to network, to lead, and to give back to the communities in which we serve.

While leading with their mission in mind, our Women's BRG works to:

  • Have a positive effect on the Giant Eagle culture. The intent is to change the way women participate in Giant Eagle’s success, and how women are seen and understood within the organization.
  • Complement, reinforce, promote, and accelerate Giant Eagle’s success and strategic goals by leveraging women’s alternative and valuable perspectives, skill sets, attributes, and traits.
  • Provide support to women as they navigate the changes that occur throughout their careers, finding the balance between winning at work and winning at home.
  • Promote Diversity such as talented women moving into positions of influence, talented women having a voice and a comfortable seat at the table, talented women driving real business results, across the enterprise, and creating a culture where women want to advance and succeed.

Lead from the Outside by Stacey Abrams

Virtual Book Club Discussion: "Lead from the Outside" by Stacey Abrams

Our Team Members participated in a Virtual Book Club discussing "Lead from the Outside" by Stacey Abrams.

"Lead from the Outside" is the handbook for outsiders, written with an eye toward the challenges that hinder women, people of color, the working class, members of the LGBTQ community, and millennials ready to make change. Stacey uses her hard-won insights to break down how ambition, fear, money, and failure function in leadership, and she includes practical exercises to help you realize your own ambition and hone your skills. "Lead from the Outside" discusses candidly what Stacey has learned over the course of her impressive career in politics, business and the nonprofit world: that differences in race, gender, and class provide vital strength, which we can employ to rise to the top and create real and lasting change.

Virtual Movie Club Discussion: "Hidden Figures"

Our Team Members participated in a Virtual Movie Club discussing the movie "Hidden Figures".

Three brilliant African-American women at NASA - Katherine Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe) - serve as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn (Glen Powell) into orbit, a stunning achievement that restored the nation's confidence, turned around the Space Race and galvanized the world.

Lopaus Point Gluten-Free Waffles Q&A Session

Team Members also had the opportunity in the Q&A to ask questions and learn more about Lopaus Point Gluten-Free Waffles.

About Lopaus Point Waffles

Lopaus Point Gluten-Free Waffles located in Columbus, OH is owned by Stacie Skinner. “We use only organic and natural ingredients and no sugar in any of our batters. Instead, we add a bit of organic fruit for a hint of sweetness,” says Stacie, “We like to say that we give you the taste of homemade but with the convenience of toast and serve.”

We also love Stacie's commitment to our local community members. Her and her team strive to hire people who are differently abled and provide training and vocation for them.

I get flavor inspiration from my childhood, I spent countless hours with my mother cooking and baking from scratch. The memory of the flavors and aromas is what is inspiring — the nostalgia. Here at Lopaus Point we say we are ‘joyfully obsessed’ and that means that making the waffles gluten free to meet dietary needs is a pleasure.
