Meet Quinton, Store Leader at our Southside Giant Eagle in Pittsburgh, PA
This week's #TeamMemberTuesday is featuring Quinton, Store Leader at our Southside Giant Eagle in Pittsburgh, PA. Quinton joined the Giant Eagle team because he knew our Core Values aligned with his own, including his passion for building his team while always innovating and finding new ways to serve our guests.
How did you come to work for Giant Eagle?
I spent 12 years working for a large national retailer. I started out working as a Lot Attendant and worked my way through the store eventually becoming a Store Director.
After working for that company for 12 years, I knew I was ready for a new challenge. I have a passion for retail and knew I wanted to stay in that sector. I started looking for a company that had similar values to mine. I had a few family members that worked for Giant Eagle over the years which also influenced my decision. Giant Eagle just made sense.
At Giant Eagle, I’ve had the opportunity to learn a ton about our fresh departments. The opportunity for advancement was also a huge selling point. There are so many opportunities across our offices, warehouses, and supermarkets. The beautiful thing about those opportunities is that they are right here in Pittsburgh!
Why have you chosen to stay with Giant Eagle?
I truly believe our Company is focusing on the right things to remain relevant. We’ve positioned ourselves to be a top competitor with our recent omni-channel initiatives. In addition to Curbside, guest loyalty, merchandising, Team Member engagement, diversity recruiting/retention, and freshness are all focuses that will continue to make our Company great. I’m excited to continue to play a role in rolling out future initiatives.
What do you love most about your current role?
I love being able to run my business through my team. I pride myself on the relationships that I build with my team, and creating a culture in which my team feels valued is the most rewarding part about being a Store Leader.
Since being with Giant Eagle, I’ve had the opportunity to learn a lot about its history. I think the work that the Company is doing now is truly what the founding five families envisioned. Every day when we unlock those doors, we are providing our communities with life’s essentials. Community and family values are apart of what we do every single day.
Is there a moment that sticks out to you when you knew you’d made the right decision to work here?
During my first week in Assistant Store Leader training at the Robinson Market District, I had the opportunity to meet a family in which three different generations worked in the same store. One of the family members was telling me about how many of their family members had worked for Giant Eagle in the past. I kept hearing similar stories the more I got around the store getting to know my new team. Some of these Team Members had twenty, thirty, and even forty years of experience. At my previous company, it was rare that anyone had over ten years of experience. It was then that I knew Giant Eagle took care of its Team Members. I knew that it was a special place.
What are some interesting hobbies or talents that most people may not know about you?
I enjoy cycling. When weather permits, I try to bike 60 miles a week. Pittsburgh has several beautiful bike trails. The Great Allegheny Passage trail is my favorite as you get to see so many beautiful parts of our city.
