MEET MOLLY, CONFIDENTIAL HR COORDINATOR AT OUR STRONGSVILLE MARKET DISTRICT
This week's #TeamMemberTuesday is featuring Molly, Confidential Human Resources Coordinator at our Strongsville Market District! Molly joined the Giant Eagle family 13 years ago as a Cashier and has since built quite a career! Her upbeat, positive personality makes her such a value member of the Market District and human resources team.
How did you come to work for Market District?
I started when I was 18. I had volunteered at Fairview Hospital for four years and finally my dad was like, “Maybe you should get a job that pays you…” I said, “Yeah, I guess so.” I was a senior in high school, and I figured I should probably get a real job. I applied for the Rocky River store as a cashier. So really it was my first job ever, I needed money, and I grew my career from there.
What has been your career path with Giant Eagle & Market District so far?
I started out as a cashier and quickly became a self-checkout trainer. Then I took the coordinator test and became a Front-End Coordinator. From there, I learned a little about safety compliance stuff; I hadn’t done much with that at the time. I graduated college with a degree in criminology and was unsuccessful in finding a career opportunity in my major. There was a Beer, Wine & Liquor position for the Southland store. I originally applied for that, but the Store Leader had interviewed me and wanted me as her wine steward. I knew nothing about wine. I was 21 at the time, and I told her that I didn’t know wine and she still wanted to give me a shot. To this day, I am forever grateful to her. Giant Eagle sent me to wine classes, so that was fun. I learned about wine, and I studied hard and passed my wine test. I am now Level 1 certified in wine and beer, thanks to Giant Eagle! I was a Wine Steward for 2 years at Southland, and I also took over the role of Safety Champion. Then, I applied to a Front-End Leader position and unfortunately did not get it, but the CHRC position opened a couple weeks after I interviewed for Front- End Team Leader. I interviewed for the CHRC position, got the position, and I have been doing HR for about four years now.
Why have you chosen to stay with Market District?
I love my job. Being a CHRC has been my most rewarding position since I have been here. I love being able to be at different stores at different parts of my career and meet new people. I just love my job. I go to work every day and I’m happy. I’m typically an upbeat, happy person, so getting to work with people every day has been a great fit for me.
What do you love most about your current role?
I love the people interactions, even if it’s on the phone, doing interviews, leading orientations, just working with the other Team Members. That’s my favorite part!
What do you love about Market District?
We give everyone a fair shot at different opportunities. There is a whole number of opportunities to grow in this Company, whether it’s internal or external positions. I think we give everyone a fair opportunity to interview and grow their career. Look at me - I started when I was 18 and I am 31 now, so I think that says a lot about our Company.
