This week's #TeamMemberTuesday is featuring Michele, Cashier at our Waterworks Market District in Pittsburgh, PA. Michele has been a devoted Team Member at Giant Eagle & Market District for over 46 years! We can't thank her enough for her ongoing commitment to our guests, warm, welcoming smile, and for always living out our Core Values. We are grateful to have her as a cherished member of the team. Thank you, Michele, for all you do!
What is your job title? What do you love most about your job?
My job title is Cashier, and what I love most about my job is our guests. I enjoy all the different people that shop at our stores. They come from all walks of life.
Have you had anyone you consider to be a mentor play a role in your career? How have they influenced you?
I have never had a formal mentor, but I have several leaders at my store that are informal mentors to me from our Visual Merchandising Leader to our Grocery Leader to both of my Front End Team Leaders. But, I guess when they say it starts from the top, it does. At the Waterworks Market District, we have a perfect example of a mentor with our Executive Store Leader, Jess. After a brief talk with Jess, I leave realizing life is simple if you just do the right thing and work towards making others happy.
How has Giant Eagle supported you in the past?
There was a time when my son was very young and had a medical issue. My Store Leader at the time was very flexible with my schedule and accommodated me so that I was able to attend all visiting hours with my son while he was hospitalized. I was still able to work different shifts so that I would not lose any hours and could continue to support my family.
What is your proudest accomplishment?
I am very proud of my 46 years with Giant Eagle. It's a great place to work and you can go far if you set your sights on it.
What are some interesting hobbies or talents that most people may not know about you?
I love gardening. Every tree that is in my back yard, I planted myself.
