What is your job title? And what do you love most about your job?
I am currently the Kitchen Lead at GetGo Cafe + Market in Broadview Heights, OH.
My favorite thing about my career is the bond I share with my customers and coworkers. This job has made a huge impact on my life in such a positive way.
What is your proudest accomplishment?
My proudest accomplishments are my children. I'm a proud mother of seven boys and one beautiful girl. All my children have successful careers, and I just sent my youngest two children off to college to major in nursing.
What does National Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month mean to you?
National Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month is a time to acknowledge each Hispanic ethnicity for their own unique traditions. It is showing that we as human beings all matter, and we all have history and traditions that are important to us. This particular month helps us celebrate and share ours.
Is there anything special that you do to commemorate National Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month?
During this month, we will prepare traditional foods that will be used during our celebration. In our family, we spend the last weekend of the month celebrating the lives that we have sadly lost but never forgotten. During this celebration, we have a pig roast and connect with our extended family who we unfortunately don't get to see as much as we would like. We share stories about family members who have passed. We continue these traditions so that the younger generations don't forget the importance of our heritage.
How has your heritage shaped the person you are today?
It has made me the woman I am today. My heritage has taught me morals, strength and most importantly, that family always comes first. It's taught me that no matter what, you never give up on something you believe in and has turned me into the hard worker that I am today. I've raised my kids the same way I was raised.
What are some interesting hobbies or talents that most people may not know about you?
Some of my hobbies include reading and doing puzzles that make me have to think and challenge myself. Some of my talents are sewing and fixing things from scratch. I like to find ways to put things back together again, and I love to spend time with my family during my free time.
