Meet Emiel, Training Specialist & Celebrating 40 Years as a Giant Eagle Team Member
This week's #TeamMemberTuesday is featuring Emiel, Training Specialist with Giant Eagle's Learning and Organizational Development Team. Emiel recently celebrated an impressive anniversary marking 40 years as a Giant Eagle Team Member!
We'd like to recognize Emiel's dedication, enthusiasm and unwavering commitment to the Giant Eagle family. His positive attitude and impact on his trainees and fellow Team Members can be felt throughout the Company.
How did you come to work for Giant Eagle?
I was told by a gentleman, who was my Guidance Counselor in High School, that Giant Eagle was looking to hire a Mail Courier for the Corporate Offices.
I saw Giant Eagle as a longtime grocer in the community. Once I had an initial interview, I began to see how vast the opportunities within the organization were and it seemed like a good place to start (and hopefully) build a career.
Is there a moment that sticks out to you when you knew you’d made the right decision to work here?
There are many, but one of the most recent experiences is how the organization stepped up to protect and support its Team Members during this pandemic. The care and concern that has been shown, in multiple ways, is truly a show of appreciation for how well our retail teams have performed in taking care of our communities.
Can you speak to your experiences with Giant Eagle’s business resource groups (BRG), and how the BRGs impact the workplace?
I’m a member of the B.L.A.C.C. Business Resource Group, and I believe Giant Eagle’s BRGs have given our people an opportunity to have a voice. Sometimes people may feel as though they get lost in the shuffle, but our BRGs give our Team Members a chance to share and connect with others who may be like-minded. I also appreciate that since our BRGs permeate all levels of the Company, the concerns that people share can be elevated to the key people who can influence change.
What work are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of the opportunity to conduct leadership classes for new retail leaders in the Company. To be in a place where you can influence someone’s leadership abilities is such an incredible responsibility. I am proud to be able to contribute in this way.
Is there anything else you would like people to know about Giant Eagle?
I want people to know that this is a great place to start and build a career. I would encourage people not to limit themselves but to seek opportunities to grow yourself and others around you. I believe this Company is all about growing its Team Members!
A “fun fact” about Emiel:
I am an avid toy collector. I also collect guitars, and my wife is fine with it as long as the bills are paid, and I keep all my “stuff” in my “hobby sanctuary”.
