Introducing Angie, Recruiter For Giant Eagle’s Warehouse Team!
This week’s #TeamMemberTuesday is featuring Angie, a Recruiter in Giant Eagle’s Talent Acquisition Department. Angie joined the team in 2017 in a contracting role and was quickly brought onboard. Her outgoing personality and sunny disposition make Angie a joy to work with. We’re thrilled she has made Giant Eagle her home. Learn more about Angie’s Giant Eagle story here.
How did you come to work for Giant Eagle?
I had just recently graduated from Grad school and was looking for a stable and well-known Company to settle down in. It was a Christmas miracle that on Christmas Eve that I received a call from a recruiter asking if I was interested in joining the Giant Eagle Recruiting Team. After a quick, friendly and informative interview, I could not help but grin from ear to ear and accept this great opportunity. I knew that with my HR background and graduate degree that I would be a great fit for this position and department. I started as a Contractor shortly after the New year and was officially hired as a Talent Acquisition Team Member just a few weeks thereafter.
Why have you chosen to stay with Giant Eagle?
I have stayed with Giant Eagle because I sincerely love what I do. Recruiting, calling candidates and changing their lives –whether it’s a phone interview or making them a job offer– is very rewarding. I love hearing how excited candidates get when you tell them who you are and why you’re calling. They are excited …. I am excited … it’s a great time!
What’s something that happened that can only happen here?
I’ve had the opportunity to join the Young Professionals Business Resource Group (YPBRG). A lot of companies say they have a focus on diversity, but Giant Eagle has six very strong Business Resource Groups. As a young professional and then also joining on as the Liaison to the YPBRG for Talent Acquisition, I’ve learned so much and have had the chance to connect with other young professionals. I don’t think I’d learn this much somewhere else.
Have you had anyone you consider to be a mentor play a role in your career? How have they influenced you?
I have many mentors here at Giant Eagle. Each mentor may play a different role in my life but they all want the same thing – to see me grow professionally and personally. As a matter of fact, most of my mentorships started out as a hello in the hallway.
What values are important to you at a job? How do you experience those values here?
Being kind, respecting your fellow Team members, working as a team, and stepping up when things get tough, are all important values to me. Giant Eagle likes to focus on working as a team and working to be stronger and better together. The Company also does a really great job at taking care of their fellow Team Members. For example, we have a Team Member Care Fund (TMCF), which is a 501(c)(3) organization The TMCF provides financial support to Team Members and their families experiencing severe hardships, crises or unexpected emergencies. This program would not be possible without the direct contributions and support from fellow Giant Eagle Team Members that either make one-time donations or contribute weekly via payroll deductions.
