This is my Giant Eagle. Make it yours, too!

Giving Packaging a New Life

At Giant Eagle, we're doing our part to reduce the amount of plastic going into our landfills. You may be familiar with our recycling drop-off boxes outside many of our supermarkets, where we encourage Guests to return their plastic grocery bags—whether they are from Giant Eagle or other retailers. But did you know that you can drop off more than just plastic bags?

Our NexTrex drop-off boxes, typically found outside the main entrance of our supermarkets, are shown below. Even as we continue to eliminate single-use plastic grocery bags from registers across our enterprise, these drop-off boxes will remain outside our stores to collect all acceptable plastic packaging that is still used in our industry and by other retailers.

About NexTrex

We are thrilled to partner with Trex Company, Inc., a manufacturer of wood-alternative composite decking, railing and other outdoor items made from recycled materials. Their NexTrex program takes the plastics we collect at our stores and turns them into eco-friendly outdoor products. In 2022 we proudly collected nearly 4 million pounds of plastic for the NexTrex program. Check out the short video below to see how this program works.
