Tearra, Sr. Curbside Team Leader & Ohio Army National Guard Veteran
How did you come to work for Giant Eagle?
In 2010, I came to Giant Eagle as a part-time Cashier. After working on the Front End for some time, I moved into the Beer, Wine and Liquor (BWL) department, and eventually became a BWL Team Leader. I stayed in that position for about 4 years, before I became a Curbside Team Leader. Curbside Express was brand new to our store, and I got to see how it operates from the ground up. I did that for about a year and then I became a Front End Team Leader. Finally, from there I moved into my current position as a Sr. Curbside Team Leader. I oversee Curbside and the Front End.
What made you think of Giant Eagle as a possible place of employment?
My dad worked at Giant Eagle as a Baker. I can remember going to Christmas parties with him and seeing everyone together as if it was one big family. When my dad passed away, I decided to start with the Company, and I have been here ever since.
Can you describe your military career?
I served for 8 years in the Ohio Army National Guard, as a Military Police Officer (31B) before I was honorably discharged. As a Military Police Officer, it’s similar to Police Officers on the civilian side, just in a military uniform. I earned an Army Achievement Medal during my time, and I was assigned to be a Gunner. As a Gunner, I was able to shoot about seven or eight different U.S. weapons. My unit became the Quick Reaction Force (QRF) for the state of Ohio, and we had the opportunity to learn hazmat reaction.
Why have you chosen to stay with Giant Eagle?
Giant Eagle has always been flexible. When I first started working for the Company, I was still active in the Ohio Army National Guard, so I needed a job that understood my other obligations. I still feel the same way now. As a mother of three, I am still able to grow within the Company and have plenty of time to spend with my family.
