In honor of Black History Month, we are thrilled to put the spotlight on our African American Business Resource Group!
Giant Eagle’s Business Resource Groups help build an inclusive and diverse culture, which results in higher Team Member engagement, innovative thinking and better-informed business decisions. While their tactics and individual goals differ, all six Business Resource Groups share a few key functions: acquiring, developing and supporting diverse talent; influencing internal policies, and marketing and merchandising decisions related to consumer product and services; Team Member engagement and networking; and community strengthening and service.
A few exciting happenings around the AABRG:
Giant Eagle’s African American Business Resource Group has been hard at work putting together countless opportunities for Team Members to develop themselves professionally, including sponsoring a chapter of Toastmasters ® in both Pittsburgh and Cleveland. By joining Toastmasters ® Team Members will gain the confidence to speak publicly and feel comfortable voicing their ideas and opinions in front of their peers.
The AABRG is also an advocate for supporting our community. In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the AABRG partnered with The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, Education Partnership, Family House, and National Council of Jewish Women by providing an opportunity for Team Members to take advantage of a “Day of Service” in place of their typical work day.
The AABRG has also partnered with Higher Achievement, a Pittsburgh-based organization that works with middle school aged students to put them on the path to success. Each year Higher Achievement brings more than 50 students to our corporate campus for a “career day”. We have representatives from several departments speak to the students and then we give them the opportunity to do an activity related to that line of business. This event has been a huge success each year and we look forward to hosting them again this spring!
