This week’s #TeamMemberTuesday is featuring Lynn, Kitchen Lead at our Medina GetGo Café + Market! Lynn joined the GetGo team as a member of the original crew that helped open the location in Medina in 2017 and was quickly promoted from a part-time Kitchen Team Member to a Kitchen Lead. She’s always up for a challenge and thrives in a team environment. Get to know more about Lynn here.
How did you come to work for GetGo?
Lynn, Kitchen Lead at the Medina GetGo Cafe + Market with a member of her kitchen team
I’ve been with GetGo since November 2017 when this location opened. I was looking for a career. I had a hard time that year and I was forced to move out to Medina with my brother, so because of moving here, I had to find employment. I started out as a part-time Team Member, and when the Kitchen Lead position opened, I decided to apply, and they put me in training.
I love opening new locations! Everyone is on the same page and on the ground floor. This is where I found my GetGo family. The people here are awesome, and I like staying busy. I like how quickly my days go by here. It’s a blast! I feel a lot of respect from everyone here and it makes my job easier as a Kitchen Lead. It takes a lot to earn someone’s respect, but I respect them back. I might be in a leadership type of role, but I’m not in an office pushing papers. I’m in the kitchen with my team and we do the work together.
What do you love most about being a Kitchen Lead?
I’d say the challenges that come with it. The numbers and keeping our margins in line, but also the guests that come into this store. We have a lot of regulars that I enjoy seeing every day. I love meeting new people.
What do you love about GetGo?
The Company wants you to learn everything, instead of being stuck in one spot. They want us to learn the kitchen, the register, and all the areas of the store. Also, management is very willing to listen. With most companies, once you’re in, they don’t pay attention to who you are, but it’s not like that at GetGo. They take the time to come and talk to me and see if I need anything, if there is anything they can do for me, and I love that! You don’t see that everywhere.
What was the moment you knew you’d made the right decision to work here?
There wasn’t really one moment that sticks out, but I would say it was just a feeling I had. My gut told me that I was making the right decision. I love that GetGo’s kitchen doesn’t serve “gas station food”. We’re a café and once I saw that, I realized this was a place I was going to stay.
What values are important to you at a job? How do you experience those values here?
For me, it’s all about treating people how you want to be treated, both in terms of your fellow Team Members and our guests. I’m going to feed you what I would feed my family. I’m going to do for you what I would do for myself, and everyone lives by that every day at GetGo. The environment here at GetGo is awesome.
