This week’s #TeamMemberTuesday is putting the spotlight on Vanessa, Sr. Store Leader at the Edgewood GetGo Café + Market. Vanessa has been a GetGo Team Member for more than 15 years and worked her way up from being a part-time Cashier. She is proof that hard work and determination pay off, and we’re thrilled to have her as part of the GetGo family. Read more about Vanessa here.

How did you come to work for GetGo?
This past October, I hit 15 years with GetGo. I started out as a part-time Cashier at the Sarver location when it opened. I’ve moved my way up to running one of the top GetGo’s in the Company. I’ve worked in at least 15 different locations. I was a trainer and helped to train a lot of the Store Leaders and Sr. Team Leads in the Company.
Most of the locations I’ve been at have been in the Pittsburgh area; however, I did help with some new store openings in Ohio during the past few years. I’m now the Sr. Store Leader at the new Edgewood location. Before Edgewood, I was at the Shaler location. We have a great group of Team Members at the Edgewood location. We’re getting to where we want to be and working hard everyday to bring this location to life.
What made you think of GetGo as a possible place of employment?
When I was looking for work 15 years ago, GetGo wasn’t a very well-known Company. There were a few locations in the Pittsburgh area. I needed a job and decided to apply. I never thought it was going to be a career. I went to school for awhile for elementary education, but I don’t have a degree, which goes to show that if you work hard, you can move up within the Company.
What do you love about GetGo?
I’d have to say I love the growth opportunities with GetGo. We promote from within regularly. We have high standards and we hold ourselves accountable to those standards. It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day and fall behind and let things go, but that doesn’t happen here. We hold ourselves to a higher standard.
What work are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built with my teams, with other Store Leaders, even with the customers. When I was at the Butler location, I had a customer that came in all the time. His wife had passed away. When I learned this had happened, the whole team and I got a card and sent him a card from all of us. He also had a nurse that would help him, and she came into the store one day and she told me that he got hundreds of cards when his wife passed, but he kept the card he received from GetGo in his pocket and would show everyone he could. It meant the world to him that we went out of our way to send him the card.
